Your Cardbox database on the internet with CardWeb
CardWeb™ was developed by IOTA, a value added Cardbox™ distributor in Holland for 25 years.
The CardWeb server software works in combination with the Cardbox server and a browser, giving
you the opportunity to make your database(s) available for everybody on the intranet or internet.
It is a webserver and a Cardbox Client in one, using XHTML for desired output.
The major advantages are that no one has to download nor install the Cardbox Client, neither do they
have to invest in learning how to work with the Cardbox Client. It's not necessary to dump the database
and load this dump every time in another database (like SQL or Access) after any amendments.
Skilled Cardbox users can continue to use the Cardbox Client at the same time for entering data.
Using querying possibilities as in Google™
There are various kind of queries possible in CardWeb, all based on the intuitive interface of common
search engines. You can use symbols for the Boolean operators AND (+), OR (/), ANDNOT (-) in a
familiar way and you can combine several fields and operators into one complex query.
In the new version 1.30 you can now also use "phrase search" in the same way as in Cardbox.
Using CardWeb, you can only search for strings that were indexed by Cardbox and these appear
by default in red. Indexing makes retrieval faster and it avoids problems with diacritical characters.
Output design in XHTML
This site is mentioned to give you a number of different examples (To the Databases) in the way you
can put a Cardbox database on the net, using text records or text combined with images, displaying short
record overviews as well as full record display or full image display.
You can show hyperlinks and use these to activate tasks like emailing and surfing, opening PDF files
or even opening another Cardbox database.
Prices
Prices start from EURO 850 (01/06/2010) for the basic CardWeb licence (5 'concurrent' users).
Here 'concurrent' is not used in the common way, in this case it means that CardWeb will register the
IP-address of a visitor and will keep the connection occupied for only 5 minutes and then consider it
obsolete, thus giving way for other visitors. You can buy an additional 5-users at EURO 450 etcetera....
CardWeb comes with a free "Ordinary example" (see database Contacts) which will do in most cases.
You can also buy an "Enhanced example" (see database Contacts3) at EURO 350. Contacts3 comes
with a small javascript library enabling check boxes (using cookies) to tag records like in Cardbox and
a drop down list for the number of records per page. New in both is a pick list for field "Business Type"
To get things up and running you also need 5 Read-Only users on the Cardbox server side.
Prices mentioned above include the costs needed for these Cardbox server extensions
Prices are quoted in Euro's and exclude VAT (value added tax) where applicable.
Evaluation version
If you would like to try CardWeb, assuming that you already own a Cardbox server build 156 or higher,
we can email you a temporary 5-user Cardbox Read-Only signature for evaluating purposes.
The evaluation version comes along with the "Ordinary example" including the pick list.
Go to the "Download area" to get a 3-user evaluation copy and instructions in the file Cardwebdoc.
You can send an email to IOTA for Help and other configurations.
Operating systems:
CardWeb is both available for Windows (NT, Win2k & XP....) and Linux, like the
Cardbox Server itself.
